‘The Witcher’: Liam Hemsworth Taking Over for Henry Cavill

“The Witch” has been renewed for a fourth season by Netflix, although a series of popular ideas will miss familiar faces. Henry Cavill will exit the production after the upcoming third season, with Liam Hemsworth to take the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.

The broadcaster announced the update and broadcast the news on Saturday afternoon, with both Hemsworth and Cavill also issuing statements. Reading the tone of both statements, the conclusion seems to be a peaceful passing of the torch.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be putting down my medal and my swords in Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement on Instagram. “In my place, the wonderful Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking on the mantle of the White Wolf. Like great literary characters, I pass the torch with respect for the time spent involving Geralt and eagerness to see Liam’s take on a more interesting and meaningful community. Liam, good sir, this character has incredible depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find. ”

“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the chance to play Geralt of Rivia. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I am honored that he is giving me the reins and allowing me to take the reins of White Wolf in the next chapter of his journey,” reads Hemsworth’s statement. “Henry, I have been a fan of yours for years and am inspired by what you have brought to this beloved character. I may have big boots to fill, but I’m very excited to be entering the world of The Witcher. “

Cavill has been the monster hunter Geralt in “The Witcher” since the Netflix series started on Dec. 2019. The show’s upcoming third season, which has set a release window for Summer 2023, will now be the last player and series.

“The Witcher” has emerged as one of Netflix’s flagship shows over the years. The four-part series starring Michelle Yeoh, “The Witcher: Bloodborne,” is set to premiere on Christmas Day. Reclaiming the lead role of the franchise’s main series after Cavill’s departure underscores how invested the broadcaster is in the property.

Hemsworth is best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the series “The Hunger Games”, playing opposite Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Most recently, she starred opposite Christoph Waltz in the Roku series “The Deadliest Game,” which was renewed for a second season in August 2021. She also stars opposite Russell Crowe in the upcoming thriller “Poker Face.”

Cavill is always a hot commodity in the entertainment industry. The actress and Millie Bobby Brown in “Enola Holmes 2,” released on Netflix next week, and recently signed to meet with director Guy Ritchie in “Department of Unfair War.” Additionally, Cavill has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming Warner Bros. film, although no writers or directors are currently attached to the project.

The news of Cavill’s return as Superman comes almost five years after 2017’s “Justice League,” which featured the actor’s appearance as the DC Comics superhero. However, Cavill made a cameo in the recently released “Black Adam”, which appears in a sequence that mocks the battle between Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s antihero. Cavill was given permission to take a break from Season 3 of “The Witcher” to make his “Dark Adam” appearance. Now, he leaves the list completely.
