Scott Van Pelt announced on Twitter this week that his family has a new addition: Redd, who looks as adorable as a puppy can be in his introductory picture.
New guy.
Goes from Redd. As in (Otis) Redding and Reading, Pennsylvania, where he’s from.

In particular, Van Pelt has spoken about his love for dogs and how Redd’s predecessor had a lasting impact on Otis Scott and his family. Perhaps most memorable was this spring’s incredibly moving eulogy for Otis. It was beautiful, tearfully delivered lyrics that went beyond loving memories of a pet and touched on the almost elemental relationship between humans and dogs and what it means to love when you know it doesn’t last.
Today Redd pooped on camera indoors.
Not just on camera, but while SVP was taping an episode of Slow News Day with The Ringer’s Kevin Clark.
Morning, new SND guest @notthefakeSVP joins the show. He has a new puppy. His pup did… that during the recording. This is one of the best moments in SND history.
So we made a trailer for tomorrow’s episode.

Of course, it’s objectively hilarious that Redd chose to do his business something like that only Place it anywhere in the room where it would be visible to the camera. But what sends this moment to the heights of accidental destiny is the fact that it happened at the perfect time to interrupt Clark’s attempt at dialogue about Ryen Russillo’s hair story. (Not that Clark’s part isn’t great too, to be blunt. It’s just a fantastic juxtaposition.)
Twitter’s response was quick and predictable, perhaps best summarized here by Brian Floyd:
good dog https://t.co/xXzHyociBk

Others rightly pointed to Van Pelt’s impeccable response, where he both noticed Russillo’s side-by-side and signaled for a 20-second timeout in basketball fashion. A real pro!
I’m gonna take a 20 is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard in my life https://t.co/sfiA7eL7Aj

If Redd can make that kind of impact on camera in the early stages of his life and time at the Van Pelt home, he’ll be a star for a long time to come.
But, and it’s important to emphasize this while it’s already been said: good dog, Redd.
Very good dog.
