Pride Week starts this weekend. Take a look at the LGBTQ+ events planned.

LAS CRUCES — Southern New Mexico Pride’s annual week-long celebration of pride begins Saturday with an outdoor drag queen and a ball.

Take a look at the schedule for this year’s Pride Week and some separate events planned for the weekend.

Southern NM Pride Ball

Pride week kicks off this year with the Southern NM Pride Ball presented by the La Vida Project of Family & Youth Innovations Plus. The event will take place at The Range LC at 3217 El Camino Real Rd. from 7-10 p.m. Friday 23 Sept.

The evening pays homage to the ball culture pioneered by black and Hispanic drag queens in New York City and features drag performances, awards and other entertainment.

Outdoor drag queen

The kick-off event for Pride Week is the monthly Drag Queen Alfresco at Salud! de Mesilla, 1800 Avenida de Mesilla, Saturday 24 September. Seating is at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. There is a $10 entry fee.

Local drag queen Ivonna Bump will host and perform, while several other drag queens will take turns lip-synching their favorite hits on stage.

Shaving cream baseball and family picnic

PFLAG Las Cruces, SNMP, GLSEN and New Mexico State University’s LGBTQ+ programs will host on-campus food and games on Sunday, September 25. From 12pm to 2pm, Preciado Park on Gregg Street on campus will be filled with people of all ages enjoying fun games and food.

Pride GAYme Night

RAD Retrocade is hosting a Pride GAYme Night on Monday evening, September 26th at 7pm. The bar at 201 N. Main St. offers food, drinks and a variety of games.

Proudly draw Loteria

Loteria fans can visit Ivonna Bump Tuesday night in Mesilla at Vintage Wines at 2461 Calle de Principal. All ages are welcome. Seating begins at 6:00 p.m. and play begins at 7:00 p.m. $5 is required to play with prizes.

Proud rainbow drinks

SNMP’s monthly Rainbow Drinks event is taking place on Wednesday 28th September at 6pm at Salud! by Mesilla. Join friends and meet new people at the popular mixer.

Proud karaoke

Visit Little Toad Creek Brewery & Distillery for Pride Karaoke on Thursday nights. Prepare your favorite song and grab the mic at the bar at 119 N. Main St at 7:00 p.m.

Pride Movie Night – “Paris Burns”

Watch the 1980’s documentary Paris is Burning on Friday, September 30 at Alma d’Arte Charter High School, 402 W. Court Ave. Entry is at 6 p.m. PFLAG Las Cruces and the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library will provide popcorn and drinks to attendees. This event is free for participants.

The film documents New York City’s ballroom culture and the Black, Latino, gay and transgender communities involved in organizing it.

2022 Pride in the Plaza

A Pride March around Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St. will begin with celebrations on Saturday, October 1 at 4:30 p.m. The march will conclude in the Plaza where further entertainment and activities will take place until 10:00pm. Tables with products and information related to local LGBTQ+ groups will also be set up in the area.

Pride brunch

People can enjoy brunch at noon Salud! de Mesilla Sunday 2nd October to close Pride Week.

Proud Happy Hour

The final event of Pride Week is the Pride Happy Hour, taking place on Sunday at 3pm at Vintage Wines in Mesilla. Talk to others about the exciting week of events and look forward to next year’s Pride Week.
