The Mediterranean style of the genius loci of the Bolgheri estate
NEW YORK , 21 Sept2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Ornellaia, the legendary Bolgheri winery, is pleased to present the latest 2020 vintage of Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia Bolgheri DOC Rosso and the elegant white Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia Toscana IGT Bianco, both of them are perfect embodiments of the distinctive wine region of Bolgheri.
Le Serre Nuove dell’ Ornellaia, the second wine from Ornellaia, is the most direct expression of the winery’s style. A precious blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this wine is made with the same passion and attention to detail as Ornellaia. Each vintage is a blend of elegant gentleness and Bolgheri-style complexity, ready to mature in the bottle for many years.
Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia, made mainly from Sauvignon Blanc with a touch of Vermentino and Verdicchio, owes its elegant Mediterranean style to the special microclimate that characterizes the winery. This year, the white wine is enhanced by the Ambassadors of Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia project, which pays tribute to the connection with the sea and the land of origin.
Axel HeinzEstate Director of Ornellaia, describes 2020 as an exceptional vintage with great potential: “In terms of winemaking, the 2020 vintage will be remembered for its energy, which led to the creation of wines with enormous potential. Over time, it will be considered one of Bolgheri’s greatest vintages like 2006, 2010 and 2016. The land responded to the conditions by infusing each variety with precise characteristics. Through a clear vision, patient exploration of the soil and the best exposures as well as the selection of the vines to be planted, we managed to transport the genius loci of this unique wine region not only in the ruby red of Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia, but also in the straw yellow of Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia.”
After a mild and rainy winter, spring slowly began, protecting the buds from frost. A wet June was followed by a long period of drought until the end of August. The dry conditions encouraged a slow and steady veraison. The temperature changes between day and night ensured that the grapes could develop their full aromatic potential and the right acidity, while the early harvest and the lack of water stress allowed the white grapes to develop all their wonderful typical aromas.
At the Ornellaia winery, each variety and each plot is vinified separately to ensure the utmost respect for the different characteristics of the grape with minimal human intervention. Olga Fusari, the winemaker of Ornellaia, explains: “With its deep ruby red hue and violet reflections, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2020 fearlessly reveals a clear and generous aromatic expression, marked by ripe red fruit aromas. The wine is soft, rounded and beguiling on the palate Glass, in addition to full-bodiedness, shows a great balance between structure, fullness and elegance.” She continues: “With its bright straw yellow color, Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia 2020 shows a remarkable aromatic intensity: forest and white flowers accompanied by notes of white peach, sage and herbs that unfold in the glass. The wine is elegant and bold, filling the palate at tasting and showing the right balance between freshness, acidity and density. The finish is lively, lasting and flavorful.” These are wines that show attention to detail, character and terroir.
Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia and Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia are exclusively imported into the USA by VINTUS.
