One Weird Thing About Illinois Hobby Lobby Stores

For those who don’t know, I spend most of my time outside of the studio making things. Signs, t-shirts, ornaments, gag gifts, wreaths, you name it, I’ve probably tried to make it. It’s a bit of a side job for me, but more importantly, I LOVE it!

For more years than I can count I’ve been spending a lot of time and money at hobby lobby stores fueling my crafting addiction, but there’s one important thing that never really caught my eye until recently.

Where’s all the Halloween stuff in the hobby lobby?

As a crafter, I’ve been busy making Fall/Halloween and Christmas decorations for months and luckily Hobby Lobby always starts stocking these items during the summer months for me to stock up on. I know for a fact that the store in the Rockford Hobby Lobby on E State Street had a small Halloween section in the past, but I went to this store a few weeks ago to find Halloween themed and colored ribbons, and I didn’t find anything. No black and orange ribbon combos, no Happy Halloween satin ribbons, nothing. Was it sold out before I got there? Or have Halloween items never graced hobby lobby store shelves this year?

The Hobby Lobby’s Halloween Attitude

The disappearance of Halloween items from hobbyist lobby stores is nothing new in 2022, and according to social media research, that’s not the case at every store across the country. Lots of people rant online about the lack of decorations, while others claim their local hobby lobby store has some Halloween items on the shelves. So what’s up, Rockford?

Though it’s never been officially confirmed by the company, the “cancellation” of Halloween at most hobbyist lobby stores might just stem from their mission Expression;

We honor the Lord in everything we do by conducting business in accordance with biblical principles.

I applaud a company that sticks to its principles, but we’re not asking for a bunch of decorations with devils and witches on them, I think most of us would be happy with some pretty Happy Halloween pumpkins…or some bloody black ones and Orange /Halloween Ribbon! I guess I just have to go to Michael’s right now and it hurts my hobby-lobby-loving heart.
