A cheesy new hotel chain opening its first US hotel in Sunnyvale promises to take you back to the days of your youth. Called the Treehouse Hotel, it will be built where a Sheraton Hotel currently occupies at 1100 North Mathilda Avenue. SH Hotels & Resorts is the company behind the Treehouse Hotel Sunnyvale, which will have 254 rooms. 142 of them will be housed in a six-storey new building. Some of the buildings currently occupied by Sheraton will be renovated to house 112 rooms and other amenities.
SH Hotels & Resorts recently opened 1 Hotel San Francisco in the former Hotel Vitale on SF’s Embarcadero, marking their first foray into the Bay Area. And now we have news of her second.

Treehouse Hotels use creative names for things that are common in hotels. According to Mercury News, the swimming pool will be called the Woodland Swim Hole and the conference center will be called the Event Barn.
SH Hotels & Resorts CEO Barry Sternlicht said in a press release: “Sunnyvale is the epicenter of the bold ideas, disruptive technologies, imagination and innovation that make Silicon Valley iconic and an inspiration to the world. Every inch of it is playful ownership, from mismatched materials to secret nooks and unexpected artworks, creatively combining the energy and intensity of Silicon Valley’s high-tech culture with the simpler, older, more natural charm of the pre-internet era of the Santa Clara Valley.”

Hotel industry experts believe the hotel will really stand out in Silicon Valley. “I like the concept and I think Barry Sternlicht is one of the smartest hoteliers in the business. It’s just right for what guests want and helps raise environmental awareness,” Atlas Hospitality Group’s Alan Reay told Mercury News. An example of eco-friendliness is that much of the six-story main structure is built off-site using modular technology that reduces environmental impact and waste. Trees cut down during construction are also expected to be reused by local artists who will create nature-themed sculptures throughout the property.

Guests can expect “a garden with games, a lively beer garden, a courtyard pool with cabanas, a hot tub and pizza oven, and a state-of-the-art fitness facility,” according to the press release. Most rooms have private outdoor patios, balconies, or patios. Inside the rooms, you’ll notice outdoor furniture crafted from worn woods, along with “colorful throw pillows and quirky quilts,” says the Treehouse Hotel. The goal is to start renting out the rooms in Sunnyvale by the end of 2023. The brand already has a location in London that opened in 2019.
