Lance McCullers Jr. to start Game 3 2022 World Series

Houston – Five years after he started Game 7 of the 2017 World Series, a game in which the Astros beat the Dodgers in Los Angeles for their first title in club history – right-hand Lance McCullers Jr. Will return to the Fall Classic stage when he starts Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night in Philadelphia.

The best of the seven games against the Phillies was a 1-1 draw after the Astros beat the Phillies 5-2 on Saturday night at Minute Maid Park.

McCullers will begin his third playoff in 2022, appearing in the American League Division Series and AL Championship Series. He conceded six goals in the Astros’ 18-inning win over Seattle in Game 3 of the ALDS and gave up four runs (three assists) on eight strikeouts and One walk in 5 in Game 4 of the ALCS vs. Yankees in New York.

“I’m really excited,” McCullers said. “They came in and did what they should have done and they broke 1-1 so it will be up to us to get into their park and play three on the road and play good baseball. . But [I’m] Really looking forward to meeting the crowd. I have heard a lot about it. So I was open. I’m a big fan of the game and I think it will be a great time. “I look forward to trying to help us win.”

McCullers is one of the biggest players in Astros history, going 2-2 with 2.77 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 18 career games (11 starts) next season. His 11th qualifier starts and 68 1/3 rounds are the second most in exclusive history behind Justin Verlander (17 playoff starts, 104 1/3 innings).

Through his previous two World Series appearances in 2017, he gave up three runs, seven hits, four walks and four assists in 7 2/3 Innings. He also drove in Game 7 in ’17 while playing just 2 1/3 innings at Dodger Stadium.

McCullers faced the Phillies at the start of his last regular season on October 3, keeping them running once on six hits and one walk in six. He lost the lead over Kyle Schwarber and suffered a concussion as the Astros were blocked by the Phillies, 3-0. Philadelphia took last place on the NL Wild Card.

“They had real men from jumping with Schwarber until half of the team hit average and gained power,” McCullers said. “And then you have a guy downstairs where you see that bat. [Bryson] Stott has tonight. [in Game 2]. That was one of the most interesting bats I have ever seen. And when they get up, they can run, and then they put the ball in the game. So they are really a full team. “I’m looking forward to this game.”
