Jeremy Renner was trying to save his oldest nephew from being hit by a snow plow when the machine accidentally crushed the popular “Avengers” star, according to a Nevada sheriff’s office incident report.
The “Hurt Locker” star didn’t activate the emergency brake as it went sideways after he used it to pull his nephew’s truck out of the snow, according to a new report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (via CNN).
“The Pistenbully snowplow began to slide causing Renner to exit the vehicle without applying the emergency brake,” the report read.
“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake can keep the Pistenbully moving forward.
“When Renner tried to stop or swerve the Pistenbully to avoid injury (to his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and ran away.”
The report also notes that the indicator light was not working and “mechanical issues may have been a factor in the accident.”
Renner’s niece helped him as they waited for medical help to arrive and airlift him to a trauma center. His representative confirmed at the time that he was in “critical, but stable condition” and suffered “painful chest injuries and bone injuries” for which he underwent multiple surgeries.
Renner, 52, returned home earlier this month after spending nearly two weeks in the hospital. He later revealed that he had broken more than 30 bones in a snow plowing accident, which happened on New Year’s Day.
“These 30 bones and broken bones will heal, grow stronger, just as love and relationships with family and friends deepen,” he wrote next to a photo of him in a hospital bed with a doctor stretching his leg.
He wrote: “I love and thank you all very much.
