Define what “success” would look like if you were elected to your district.
Success is when everyone I represent knows they can call me on any subject and I will respect their point of view.
True success is when they know that a call to me with a problem in government bureaucracy means I will cut bureaucracy and make it a priority.
A successful legislature will be policies that reduce energy costs and encourage a philosophy of small business growth through lower taxes.
Success also fosters a strong education system that trusts the professional teachers and elected school boards to set out a plan and strategy to teach our children “how to think,” not “what to think.” Instead of the “one size fits all” mess driven by the top-down agenda, there is currently pushing. We also need to limit the stress of staff shortages on our teachers. A society cannot survive without a quality education that teaches critical thinking.
We must return to an education system that teaches children to divide by numbers instead of by race. like dr King dreamed, we must judge by the character’s content and not by the color of his skin.
We must overcome our differences in philosophy and focus on doing the work for the people of Maine. If President Ronald Reagan and Speaker Tip O’Neil could be friends, and Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsberg could be best friends, it tells us that disliking someone who disagrees with your point of view is a sign of ignorance and is not of intelligence as so many tend to believe.
Characterize your view on public access to government business.
The government must be transparent and open to the people. Public gatherings, FOIAs, and public scrutiny are the only things that separate us from third world dictators. The additional effort for the servants is the price of democracy. A price that our veterans have already paid and that we should honor.
