But who are we fooling? Most girls prefer the tailgating, watch parties, and sports bar scene to what’s really happening on the lawn or on our TV screens. (Girls forced by their friends to watch football, we’re looking at you!)
So what should girls wear to a tailgate, a Sunday night waking party, or their favorite sports bar? I remember in my own college days this question popping up every Friday night before game day, leading to frantic closets as my roommates and I frantically searched for it the outfit.
For better or worse, soccer game day style has evolved into a runway show, and for the girls trying to keep up with game day ‘couture’ without breaking the bank, we’ve got your back.
Here are a few suggestions on how to jazz up your outfits and look cute on game day.
White tennis skirts
White tennis skirts look cute with any gameday t-shirt and are pretty cheap on Amazon. Pair these cute white skirts with a game day t-shirt – cropped or tie at the waist – and white sneakers. Add a denim jacket when you want something extra, or even pair it with a crew-neck sweatshirt with your school’s logo when the weather is chilly. This feminine sporty look never fails.
Oversized t shirts
Oversized t-shirts are your best friend. Dad’s old college t-shirts? A cheap oversized men’s shirt at your college bookstore? Hot Tip: Men’s t-shirts are often cheaper than women’s t-shirts at college bookstores, and they make for very cute game day outfits. Wear an oversized t-shirt with cowgirl boots and denim shorts for a country look. Or look to Pinterest for the many ways to cut and style a plain t-shirt to make it more festive!
denim jackets
Denim jackets don’t have to be boring. Find your team’s logo iron-on patches on Etsy, Amazon, or even eBay. Adding the logo to the back of your denim jacket or adding stars and other cute patterns is a tried and true way to spice up any look.
sundresses
Sundresses in your team’s colors are often the best match day outfits. Pair a cute sundress with a baseball cap with your school’s logo on it, and you’re sure to look like a babe. Who says girls can’t be feminine while watching football?
school colors
Check out local thrift stores and the Walmart near your school. Often these places have cute and affordable t-shirts, sweatshirts and sweaters in your team’s colors or even with your team’s logo on them! Shopping at a local thrift store in college helped me find adorable vintage pieces at insanely good prices. And whether you find cute pieces or not, it makes for a fun outing with your girlfriends!
Accesories
Head to your local Dollar Tree, Walmart, or even Amazon to buy glitter, cute headbands/bandanas, cheap disgusting sunglasses, or a cute plastic cowgirl hat/baseball cap in your school colors. With just a little glitter and fun, your outfit can stand out and be great fun with friends.
Go cowgirl
Do you have cowgirl boots or a cowgirl hat? Add them! Adding a little country to any look is very in right now – and PPE, cowgirl boots are surprisingly comfortable walking shoes.
Final Thoughts
Figuring out outfits for game day can be stressful, especially when you feel like you’ve exhausted your clothing options but don’t want to spend your life savings on clothes. By following a few of these tips, you’ll look cute, feminine, and sporty while cheering on your favorite team to victory.
