NASCAR is a famous American racing sport featuring high speed cars gliding around a track. It’s an exhilarating spectacle and often results in the most thrilling races ever seen.
More to life than racing
NASCAR drivers are famous for their speed, but many have other hobbies as well. From card games to natural wonders, each of these famous riders has their own way of enjoying their free time.
Let’s jump straight to the various hobbies on the list.
Tony Stewart: Deer Hunt
Tony Stewart, also known as Smoke, is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the sport. He has three NASCAR Cup Series championships under his belt and is also a co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing and Superstar Racing Experience.
But Stewart is also known for his passion for deer hunting. Stewart has hunted deer for more than 30 years and even launched his hunting ranch, which has become the most expensive entry in Indiana.
Purchasing the property would be a significant win for any big Smoke fans!
Landon Cassill: Poker
Landon Cassill is a professional NASCAR driver who currently drives for Team Hendrick Motorsports. He has also competed in championships such as the Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Cup Series.
Away from the racetrack, Cassill has a few other hobbies up his sleeve. In particular, he is known for his love of poker, which he has played since he started racing. He has made high profile plays in poker tournaments including the recent StormX Invitations Tournament.
No. 77 sat at the table with some pretty impressive players, including celebrities and entrepreneurs. Despite not doing his best, Cassill has said he will practice for next time. Luckily, he has plenty of online poker sites to practice at.
In the meantime, he’d better stick to racing.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Cooking and Virtual F1 Racing
Dale Earnhardt Jr. followed in his father’s tradition of being a successful NASCAR driver. Earnhardt Jr., nicknamed the Pied Piper of Daytona, made his mark by winning the Daytona 500 twice. In addition, he managed to win 26 times in the Cup series.
Now that he’s retired, he spends a lot of time on his other hobby: cooking. Dale Jr. is known for its unorthodox tastes, like the infamous “strangewich,” which is made with bananas and mayonnaise. However, he occasionally ventures out to cook other meals. Barbecues and biscuits are just a few of its specialties.
Danica PatrickSommelier
Danica Patrick made waves when she burst onto the IndyCar racing scene. As one of the first women to win the Japan 300, she has set the standard for riders worldwide.
Since she retired, she has enjoyed the finer things in life, like starting her own wine business. With the Latin name Somnium, meaning ‘dream’, Patrick describes themselves as being as balanced and intense as their wines.
Early in her racing career, she walked into a Napa Valley vineyard and fell in love. Years later, after making a name for herself, she bought her own vineyard and started her wine business.
Jimmie Johnson: Running the Boston Marathon
Jimmie Johnson, who won the NASCAR Cup Series championship seven times, remains one of NASCAR’s most celebrated drivers. Johnson is a five-time Indianapolis 500 winner and a four-time Daytona 500 winner. He also won the Bakersfield 400 in 2016.
In his spare time he is still quite an active person. Running is one of his favorite pastimes, especially marathons. In 2017, he completed the Boston Marathon in 3 hours, 9 minutes and 7 seconds, which he felt was not easy.
Johnson also competes in other endurance events such as the Ironman Triathlon.
