San Diegos are invited to a free event on Thursday, October 6th to learn more about the importance of clinical trials in advancing medicine and the benefits of their participation.
The Journey to Better Health | The AWARE for All event from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will feature health assessments, clinical research information, refreshments and a complimentary packed dinner at the Scottish Rite Event Center, 1985 Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley.
The event is hosted by the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation, a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education and participation in clinical trials. The organization has planned a series of events across the country.
In San Diego, local clinical trial participants and healthcare professionals will participate in a panel discussion, and exhibiting organizations will provide clinical trial and research information and resources. Participants can expect the following:
- Learn what clinical research is and the role it plays in public health
- Understand the benefits and safeguards to protect study participants
- Get information on how to find research opportunities for clinical trials
- Meet local medical professionals and research participants
- Get a free memory screening courtesy of the Sharp Research Institute and health information from various local organizations
“We invite the community to hear directly from San Diegos who have participated in clinical trials and the physicians who have led them,” said Joan A. Chambers, senior director of marketing, communication and education at CISCRP.
“From the latest health advances to the medicines on pharmacy shelves, we so often take what we have access to for granted,” she added. “This event helps people take control of their health and the opportunities for treatments that may be available to you and others now or in the future.”
Participating organizations include the Alzheimer’s Association, American Liver Foundation, Community Health Improvement Partners, Excel Research, Leukemia Lymphoma Society, Liver Foundation, Pacific Research Network, San Diego County Immunization Unit, Sepsis Alliance, Sharp Research Center, The Scleroderma Foundation of California , VA San Diego Medical Center and Velocity Clinical Research.
