From September 9th to 14th, the world turned to New York as the series of international fashion weeks began. American fashion labels and designers took their style to the A-game, presenting style visions of glamour, colour, inclusivity and yes, groundbreaking florals for the upcoming spring season.
Creative Directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez kicked off NYFW with their collection for Proenza Schouler. Featuring a menagerie of textures, knitwear and ruffles, the label’s Spring-Summer 2023 offering is described as “an unabashed cacophony of spirit, joy, sensual and tactile qualities that bring joy to life”. The collection’s skintight pieces, which ranged from white, gray and navy blue, were also available in chartreuse and mint tones.
With his spring-summer 2023 collection, designer Prabal Gurung made a statement of support for “people who are often invisible but are monitored, watched and scrutinized”. His boldly colored line was demonstrated at the old Japanese consulate in United Nations Square. Fashion audiences feasted their eyes on feathered pieces, soft sheer tops and floral items in dramatic proportions. His show ended with his interpretations of the ball gown, which was made of tulle, sensual and bohemian.
Artist and singer Lil Nas X made his runway debut at Coach’s Spring-Summer 2023 show. The brand’s collection explored American heritage through a showcase of gingham babydoll dresses, distressed knitwear, utility jackets with hardware accents, sturdy double-breasted leather coats and reinterpretations of college football uniforms.
Stars gathered at the unveiling of Tory Burch’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection during NYFW. According to designer Tory Burch, her brand’s latest release is driven by opposing instincts: to experiment freely and strip down. Clean lines and an ethereal color palette provide the understated backdrop for a new focus on material and silhouette.
Anne Hathaway brought a ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ moment to the Michael Kors show, but the real star of the event was his spring-summer 2023 collection. Dubbed ‘Urban Resort’, the collection celebrates ‘the fusion of urbanity and nature ‘ with structured blazers, fringed details and floral maxi dresses appearing on the runway.
The designer Christian Siriano offers a glamorous vision with his ready-to-wear collection for spring 2023 of our almost post-pandemic world. His collection, housed in Elizabeth Taylor’s former townhouse, was inspired by major Hollywood legends such as Katharine Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich and Bianca Jagger.
Creative Director Wes Gordon’s inspiration for Carolina Herrera’s spring-summer collection was the classic novel The Secret Garden. The result was a whimsical display of intricate floral pieces and opulent dresses, with supermodel Karlie Kloss closing the show.
