DANCE: Fort Smith ‘Nutcracker’

Western Arkansas Ballet’s 37th annual performance by Peter Tchaikovsky “The Nutcracker” will star Washington Ballet dancers Ashley Murphy-Wilson as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Nicholas Cowden as her Cavalier, raising a group of more than 100 local children and adults, 7 pm Saturday and 2 pm Dec. 18 ArcBest Corp. VoiceJam Contest

A cappella groups from all over the country can audition for a place every year VoiceJam Contest, April 15 at Fayetteville’s Walton Arts Center. January 31 is the deadline for teams of two to 20 players to submit video audition materials online through waltonartscenter.org. There is no age limit and no school affiliation is necessary. This competition can include up to eight teams; the announcement of those selected will be announced on February 20.

The grand champion will win a professionally produced video of their set; there will be awards for best arrangement, voice acting, soloing and choreography.

Also, Northwest Arkansas musicians age 18 and older may audition, Jan. 31-Feb. On the 28th, the first VoiceJam group will perform during the intermission of the competition. Test instructions will be out soon.

The Poets’ Roundtable of Arkansas announces these annual student poetry competition spring 2023:

◼️ Collegiate – Pat Laster Collegiate Competition: Open to students across the country. The top three winners will receive a total of $1,000 (first, $500; second, $300; ​​third, $200). Entries are due March 15.
