AR Empowers Sustainable Fashion, ZERO10 Report Says

Several use cases for augmented reality (AR) solutions, including retail fitting experiences, have seen a meteoric rise amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report from George Yashin, co-founder of ZERO10said in a recent report.

Based in New York, New York, the company provides businesses and individuals with AR apps for trying on clothes to support sustainable fashion in the global apparel industry by using the latest computer vision software.

According to the results, AR empowers consumers with fresh retail offerings including augmented fashion, furniture, and health and beauty, among others, and enables smartphones and digital cameras to transform physical environments with spatial computing solutions.

Such AR solutions boosted sales for retailers, with virtual clothing boosting purchases for each customer and reducing return rates by about 27 percent, researchers from South Korea and China found in the results.

It added that physical stores were also benefiting from the technology, where customers could preview clothing or makeup rather than using fitting rooms, saving shoppers time, money and energy.

Firms received additional perks by reducing overproduction, which resulted in less fashion waste, the report said, citing about 2,150 pieces of clothing that are thrown away every second in the United States.

The report found that German logistics provider DHL has tapped AR to help workers with smart glasses find optimal routes for receiving packages on routes, eliminating scanners and paperwork.

Augmented Reality strengthens and entertains

The news comes as the global Extended Reality (XR) industry is leveraging AR for numerous use cases in medical, first responders, entertainment, logistics, defense and many others.

Firms like Florida-based Red 6 have started using the technology to train pilots with virtual fighters, resulting in lower costs and on-demand training modules, while the US Army is using its Microsoft HoloLens 2-based Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) is used. September for soldiers to get enhanced data and video feeds in their heads-up displays (HUDs).

Companies like Geenee AR also partnered with Ready Player Me in April to improve AR-based avatars that allow people to visualize their digital identities in physical environments with real-time accuracy.

In addition, Trigger XR and Niantic launched several games to promote the Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) and the recent blockbuster film Jurassic World, utilizing state-of-the-art data visualization and interactive features for players.
