A Hairstylist Says That Clients Shouldn’t Tell Her How To Style Hair

Some of these barbers have completely lost their minds. It’s no secret that salon etiquette is a thing — from making sure you show up a few minutes before your appointment to not eating in a barber’s chair. However, new age hairdressers have made headlines for stupid rules and expectations while providing services. And the latest request from a hairstylist who wants to stop her clients from lecturing her has left me speechless.

Yes, you read that correctly. An Instagram post dated September 17, 2022 featured on the blog site The Neighborhood Talka screenshot from a hairdresser’s Instagram Stories left social media users stunned as she expressed her feelings about clients telling her how to style her hair.

“If you know how to do hair, go home and do it yourself,” the hairstylist ended her post. Well, ma’am?

Not all opinions should be shared on social media. Second, taking a customer’s money and refusing to listen to their expectations is bad practice. Finally, there are instances where clients prefer a stylist to swap out products to achieve the look they want.

For example, many people prefer to use a sculpting mousse for baby hair rather than hair gel or hold sprays. The latter leaves the hair feeling very harsh, while the former keeps the edges smooth and combable.

Also, many people know how to do their hair, but going to a stylist is a form of self-care. In other words, customers pay the cost of being the boss. And, of course, customer satisfaction should be a top priority, especially as a smooth experience can be a requirement for a future recommendation.

Interestingly, the comments section has been split. Many women found the hairstylist’s comments ridiculous, while others agreed with her opinion.

“I have to agree you clearly saw her work which is why you booked,” one person commented.

“These barbers are starting to be something else. You used to go to a stylist, get your hair done, and tell them how you want it. Now they’re like I’ll do it the way I want it too. NOT WITH MY MONEY THEY WILL NOT,” commented another person.

As one commenter noted, problems with barbers are becoming increasingly troublesome. Some barbers want customers to pay Hundreds for a silk pressand others require customers to come along freshly washed hair. Put simply, the defaulted accounts must stop. As a result, it has left little to no room for people to be patient.

This leaves an obvious question: Should we avoid stylists at all costs? It’s a personal choice. As mentioned above, having a stylist taking care of your mane brings with it a certain level of comfort. However, when stylists continue to make unreasonable demands, it may be worth letting the hairstyling take care of itself.
